Building the evidence base for community pharmacy depression services
The goal of this study was to build the evidence base for depression services that can be delivered from a community pharmacy setting. Different types of service were identified from a systematic review with the results presented to stakeholders (including those with lived experience of depression, carers, and various health care professionals) for them to prioritise.
Systematic Review
The review identified five types of community pharmacy depression services, focusing on: education/advice (n=15), screening (n=7), adherence (n=3), medication review (n=1), and disease and therapy management (n=1). The accessibility of community pharmacy was a key facilitator, with barriers including stigma, privacy, and resources.
eDelphi Consensus
59 stakeholders from across the UK participated in a 2-part consensus questionnaire. Participants were presented with the five types of services and asked to rank the services by priority. They also had the opportunity to propose new ideas for community pharmacy depression services. A total of 4 services were identified as a ‘High Priority’.
